In this role, you will implement various gameplay system using Unreal Engine 5. You’ll collaborate closely with environment artists, tech artists and designers to implement gameplay features. Proficiency in Unreal Engine 5, and C++ is key, along with a passion for gameplay programming.

GAMEHEARTS is a Horizon Europe project that examines the social and cultural value of the European video games industry through partnership with three key cultural institutions: the London Symphony Orchestra, the Imperial War Museum, and City Football Group. The project will explore how video games promote engagement with wider cultural industries and establish how these partnerships can, in turn, contribute to and enrich the games industry. About Cradle

Cradle is the Research & Development lab of the Academy for AI, Games & Media at Breda University of Applied Sciences. At this lab, cutting-edge, innovative games and media applications are designed and developed through projects conducted on behalf of and befitting four professorships: Digital Media Concepts; Creative & Entertainment Games; Applied Games, Innovation & Society; and Applied Data Science & Artificial Intelligence. Most of the projects at Cradle involve external partners and are funded by secondary (e.g. national or EU research grants) and tertiary sources (project-based contracts). Cradle has a staff pool of experienced, tech-savvy researchers, lecturers, designers, and developers. It also offers internships, individual graduation projects, collaborative team projects, as well as support, facilities, and equipment to students, staff, and partners.  

What you will be doing

  • Implement gameplay and engine features using C++ and blueprints 
  • Implement modular gameplay triggers and events 
  • Collaborate with designers to implement engaging and intuitive features. 
  • Collaborate with artists to implement the VFX. 
  • Create modular and flexible systems that enable fast iteration. 
  • Debug, test, and optimize gameplay systems.

Your profile

  • You receive ECTS for doing an internship or a thesis assignment as part of your study program  
  • You are conducting a MBO or a bachelor, university of applied sciences (HBO) or a similar institution  
  • Passion for games, storytelling, and innovative technologies  
  • Houdini & Unreal experience  
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail  
  • Interest in creative visual industries (animation, games, virtual production, etc.)  
  • Excellent communication skills in English  
  • Ability to work in an international, multicultural environment  
  • You are available for at least 5-6 months. Start/end date is negotiable
