About the opportunity
Cradle and the AI makerspace are looking for a hands-on, independent intern to join our team!
Cradle is the R&D lab from the Academy of AI, Games and Media, developing projects to support research and education on media innovation. The makerspace is a small but ambitious R&D lab within the university working on cutting-edge projects in AI and linking with other domains. We are looking for an independent student who is interested in these topics to work on some of our projects, while being linked with the Lab.
The internship provides hands-on experience, working with MR equipment such as the Quest 3 to interfacing between multiple users in a shared space. You will be contributing to an ongoing research project in a novel and upcoming UX field. This is a flexible opportunity which can be co-shaped with the student and can be used as a thesis assignment.
About the AugGIS project
Augmented and Mixed Reality have seen increased popularity with the release of modern headsets like the Quest 3, Vision Pro, and upcoming glasses formfactors. While the technology is advancing, little is still known about the ideal user experience, how users work together, and how modern innovations can complement one another.
The AugGIS platform has been developed as a system to visualise large GeoSpatial datasets for multiple users, enabling collaboration and exploration. The platform is thereby a test-bed for multi-user interactions, continuing development of the application and our own research in immersive UX. While there are existing solutions for data viewing in AR, AugGIS provides a flexible outlet for research, as well as an open-source tool available to the public. More information can be found on our webpage:
The next step in this project is to connect AugGIS to AI systems, providing real-time feedback about the available data based on user input. This would require new developments to the AugGIS application, to connect user requests to AI systems, analyse these requests, and provide suggestions based on the provided GeoSpatial data back to the user.
